Art you can live with.
Studio J.E.D. is a Brooklyn-based ceramic lighting studio founded by artist and designer Jen Dwyer. The studio produces sculptural lighting that exists at the intersection of functional object and contemporary ceramic sculpture. Drawing inspiration from California modernism, coastal landscapes, and women in art history, the work explores themes of softness, bodily form, ornament, and the emotional atmosphere created by light within an interior.
Dwyer grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where ceramics have long been part of the region’s vibrant artistic and cultural landscape. This early exposure to clay shaped her enduring relationship with the material and led her to formally study ceramics at the University of Washington before earning a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Notre Dame.
Over the course of her career, Dwyer has developed an internationally informed studio practice through numerous residencies and fellowships, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Wassaic Project, and the renowned pottery center in Jingdezhen, China. Her work has been exhibited and sold through galleries and design platforms across the United States, and she continues to collaborate with galleries, designers, and collectors interested in sculptural ceramic work and collectible design.
Working primarily with hand-built ceramic forms, each Studio J.E.D. piece begins with sketches and prototypes before being carefully constructed in clay through an iterative, labor-intensive process. The forms are refined, sanded, and finished with custom glaze surfaces that emphasize the tactile qualities of the material, often accented with brass or subtle 22k gold detailing that creates a luminous contrast against the earthy ceramic body.
After many years working as a fine artist, Dwyer founded Studio J.E.D. in early 2025 as a sculptural lighting practice that complements and expands her broader artistic career. Her lamps and sconces function as both lighting and sculpture—objects designed not only to illuminate a room, but to introduce warmth, stillness, and a sense of presence within a space.
Each Studio J.E.D. piece is handmade in small batches or produced as a custom commission.
